First Let me alert anyone buying this and other books from this author that several reviews shown below are part of an organised vendetta by one man against Mr. Linderer. I feel compelled to alert you to this in case you believe the outlandish rubbish shown in several negative reviews. Note they (bunch of fake names) all use the same "information" and seek to discredit? why would anyone buy three books by the same author and then slander them each time in the review section. The person responsibe (and his wife!) know who they are and are DISHONEST & MISLEADING! I add that I have absolutely no connection to the author and have never met or communicated with him. I just checked the facts on the internet and am disgusted by such dishonest & mischevious behaviour!This is a fabulous book for those who want to get an idea of life in the field with the LURPS in Vietnam. UP close and personal, it doesn't gloss over shortcomings or successes.....it just paints a very sharp and personal image of the war when sldiers are face to face wit the enemy. Very much 5 stars!
I understand their is some controversy over the authors exploits in Vietnam, I really don't care about the controversy. The truth is he served, he's a hero, and has produced a wonderful book about other heroes. His name rarely comes up, but he's still braver than the people who didn't serve
Gary Linderer did another fine job of documenting LLRP missions in South Vietnam. He makes you feel like you are experiencing all the emotions of each team in action. I read book 1 and this book continues on describing what it was like to be a soldier on long range patrols behind enemy lines. Gary tells it like it was especially regarding incompetent senior officers and their lack of understanding the situation on the ground. Some things never change.
This is the best book I've read when it comes to recon missions in the Vietnam War. Gary Linderer was himself a recon team member and later a team leader. He holds nothing back when describing the horrors of war and sadness resulting from losing a team member. I have read all of this warrior's books and haven't found any person better at giving you the truth than this guy. This particular book gives you many different missions from many different teams throughout the Republic of Vietnam. Their thoughts, fears, actions, failures, and triumphs are all spelled out clearly to the reader. You will be on a emotional roller coaster throughout these missions. If you begin this book later in the evening before bedtime, your next day will be a very long one because you won't get any sleep. You won't be able to put it down.
I ‘be read many books about Vietnam. This one stands tall with the best. It is factual, not fiction. Awesome job.

This is a hell of a good book! I am on his third one and then have a last one to read. Gary Linderer is an excellent author and tells the truthabout this time frame in Vietnam. I was there about the same time and was a grunt squad leader. Damn good read.
This was a great book and a very exciting and informative read about the actions of some true American hero's in Vietnam. I highly recommend this book.
