I received the book yesterday in perfect condition!! The many illustrations and captions on the various items within the tomb is Breath Taking!!! The fold-outs are so colorful and detailed!! The material put into this book is of the best quality, which will make this book last for many years!!! I have just begun to read its pages but there is so much to digest!! A Great Addition to my library!!

I have purchased many books about Tutankhamun and the treasures from him tomb, but, I have never found one as wonderful as this one. The pictures are unbelievable. Simply put, this is the best I have ever seen. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves the story of Tutankhamun. Forget the rest,this is the best!!

If you place this on your coffee table for guests to check out, then you better make a lot of coffee because they won't want to leave until they finish looking at all of the beautiful pictures. I have several books on Tutankhamun, and this is the best. I think Dr. Hawass has been a great ambassador of Egyptology to the masses, and for his country as well, and I choose to believe that the boy-king would have been pleased with this presentation.

Amazing photography and every sixth or eighth page is a double fold-out so it’s like getting four books in one. Artifacts all shot against a black background so they really pop...

I saw the exhibit in Indianapolis and they had this book "on sale" for $99, regularly 149.99. I wanted it but couldn't afford it. I was thrilled to find a copy here for a fraction of that price! I almost didn't buy it because I read a review that said the pages of the book were thin and flimsy. This was not the case with the copy I received. The pages are thick, glossy and colorful. This book has many more of the items pictured than what was in the exhibit I went to. If you've been to it and you want this book, find one on here cheaper and buy it. It's worth it.

This book that is dominated by the photographs, but the writing is equally rewarding. My only regret is how delicate the pages are. I fear that I will tear or smudge the rest of the pages everytime I read this book. While I have tried to treat this book gently, the pages are not as durable as other, older books about King Tut. However I have looked at several King Tut books, and this is has the best images of the funeral mask, coffins, and coffinettes that I have ever seen. Just wear kid gloves before you spend and afternoon or evening with this book.

This volume surpasses the rave reviews I first read before purchasing. It is comprehensive and fascinating. The photography elicits an audible gasp with the turn of each page. Cannot recommend highly enough for anyone with an interest in this field or just the exquisite artistry of the objects featured.

I read the book in one day. Grateful for the clarity Dr Mouw provides. Heavily marked up for intentional reviews.

It has become popular, especially since the 2016 presidential election, for evangelicals to publicly eschew the label evangelical. Richard Mouw, who has taught at Fuller Seminary since 1985, and served as president of the seminary from 1993 to 2013, acknowledges that those who distance themselves from the evangelical label have reason for concern. But, as he writes in Restless Faith: Holding Evangelical Beliefs in a World of Contested Labels, he's not willing to give up the label: "For myself, I can't think of a label that suits me better than 'evangelical.'"Mouw wants the evangelical tradition, a tradition he loves and that he nurtured him, to be preserved, and calls on "intellectual leaders who have been talking about simply resigning from the evangelical movement" to lend their aid to its preservation. In Restless Faith, Mouw addresses some of the criticisms while affirming the strengths of the movement.Mouw himself was active in the evangelical social movement in earlier decades, and rejects much of what the religious right, as it arose in the 1980s, stands for. He makes it clear that one needn't embrace the religious right if one is to be an evangelical. At the same time, Mouw's theological statements herein should disabuse anyone's suspicions that he is a universalistic theological liberal. He absolutely affirms, for example, the need for individual faith in Christ for salvation, but goes on to say that "individual salvation is not enough."Mouw's work is encouraging and challenging. He has, in his academic life and public service, exemplified an evangelicalism that holds firm to faith while living with, speaking with, and cooperating with culture and society at large. The bottom line, as I read him, is that evangelicals should not permit people and cultural forces outside of evangelicalism to define what is meant by the term. About the Author

DR. LUCY JONES was a seismologist for the U.S. Geological Survey for thirty years, most recently as Science Advisor for Risk Reduction. She created the Great ShakeOut Drill, an earthquake preparation experiment that by 2016 included 53 million participants around the world. A research associate at Caltech, she holds a PhD in geophysics from MIT and a BA in Chinese language and literature from Brown University. She lives in Southern California.

Dr. Lucy Jones (my sister) recently retired from the United States Geological Survey and has now written a very readable book: The Big Ones: How Natural Disasters Have Shaped Us (and What We Can Do About Them). It’s full of interesting stories, starting with the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Pompei, 79 A.D. through the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami in 2011. She provides plenty of scientific detail combined with a compassionate, human side of the story. The Mississippi flood of 1927 is both a terrible natural disaster as well as an important but disturbing civil rights story. Lucy details how we as human beings respond to disasters, but even more importantly how we can wisely prepare for future disasters. There’s a fascinating section that gives us an inside look at how Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is leading the city in its preparation for an inevitable earthquake.One surprise is that there’s no chapter on California earthquakes. She does devote one chapter to the worst disaster in California history entitled “What We Forget” which tells the story of the terrible … No. I can’t do it justice. I suggest you buy the book ;=)

It's difficult to say that I loved a book about disasters, but I did! We SoCal folks have seen and heard much of Lucy Jones, since we're in earthquake country. The local media consult with her whenever a newsworthy quake occurs anywhere. So I was not surprised by her display of that expertise in this book. Also, given that she is an expert researcher, I was not surprised to see that she was able to explain in layman's terms other natural disaster events from a geologic and physics perspective. What pleasantly surprised me was how she wove in the historical, political, and human behavior aspects of these major events. She pulls each of these stories together in a very entertaining and well-written manner. Her main "take-away": floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other major natural events are random, yet inevitable, but their consequences, catastrophic or not, depend entirely on human actions, before, during, and after the event. Her final chapter gives us hope that it may be possible to move the political systems to answer this call to duty.

I am hooked! It's an ambitious look at natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, and the need to explain phenomena through how we perceive the victim's part in their own (random) fate. It's bold, captivating and easy to understand. Highly recommend for classroom, libraries and book clubs!

This is a must read for anyone interested in the earth sciences and their impact on civilization. The author is obviously a very gifted scientist, and also really has an innate ability to share highly-technical, information-dense material in very engaging prose for the intelligent layperson. She has managed to describe several historical disasters, their natural foundations, the civilizations in place, and the impact on those civilizations. I truly hope that she follows this up with another "science book for the masses" - as I'd love to read more by her.

The events recounted for this book are wide-reaching, with the touch of human elements everyone can identify with and paired alongside facts. It is not by any means an exhaustive compilation of all the worst natural disasters, but addresses enough of them to lead this reader to understand the global connection we all share is one of humanity’s greatest strengths if we allow it to be. Oh, and maybe it’s time to really get an emergency supply kit together that will last more than a mere 3 days - I do live in tornado country now, after all.

Geology in college was my least favorite subject. Dr. Jones book details the parts of geology that fascinate me -- she delves into the human aspects of anticipating and recovering from geologic events we term disasters and the awful behaviors that we sometimes engage in to cope and understand them. As a native New Orleanian I read her Katrina chapter first to see if she would tell the truth as I've learned it from family serving in the Corps of Engineers and researchers at the university I work at. She did. I read the entire book with fascination and sometimes horror.

If you like earth science, you will love this book. I learned so many new things about stories I thought I knew. The stories about Pompeii and Lisbon were particularly fascinating as was the great California Flood of 1860-61. Dr. Jones is a gifted communicator and it really shows in this book. I also loved the Audible version, which is narrated by this world class scientist. Lucy may be "retired" from the USGS but she continues to educate and entertain us!

I have been fascinated by Earth’s incredible power since I was a child. This book has given me a much deeper and more complex understanding of how hurricanes, volcanos, and earthquakes actually work. I feel ready to both survive the event and recover from the aftermath.
